High U.S. decoration for Dutch Air Force Colonel

October 29, Ambassador Fay Hartog Levin handed the “Legion of Merit” to Colonel Jaap Reijling, for his large contribution to improving U.S.-Dutch relations during his posting as Air Force attaché at the Dutch Embassy in Washington in 2004-2008.  He worked in particular on JSF cooperation and the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.

The award is only rarely bestowed to military officers and political leaders of allied nations, as an appreciation for exceptional accomplishments to improve the cooperation of both nations at various levels.

The award ceremony took place at the U.S. Embassy in the presence of the deputy Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Freek Meulman, the U.S. Defense attaché and Reijling’s relatives.

Jaap Reijling is currently Chief of Cabinet and section commander of the Staff Commando Air Forces.
