Global Issues Section

The U.S. Embassy in The Hague is one of the few U.S. Missions with a separate section focused exclusively on global issues.  The Section has primary responsibility for counterterrorism (CT), narcotics, law enforcement, trafficking in persons (TIP), environment, science technology and health (ESTH), labor, population and migration, minority outreach and societal diversity, and women’s and social issues.

The Section coordinates bilateral counterterrorism and law enforcement efforts by the Embassy in consultation with the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, FBI, DEA and the Department of State.  It prepares the annual TIP, narcotics and CT reports and contributes substantial portions of the annual human rights report.

The Section works closely with the Dutch Justice, Foreign Affairs, Interior, Health, Finance (Customs and Port of Rotterdam), Environment and Transport Ministries as well as with parliamentary officials, businesses and NGOs to advance U.S. interests and promote cooperation with the Netherlands in areas of mutual concern.
